Automatic Meter Reading via Cellular Networks

         Automatic meter reading, or AMR, is the technology of automatically collecting consumption, diagnostic, and status data from energy metering devices (gas, electric) or water meter and transferring that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting, and analyzing.

They are major three topologies for AMR systems by using cellular networks:

1. Each meter is connecting to F2103 smart GPRS modem via RS232 by using CSD (data call);
 \

 2.  Each meter is connecting to a F2103 smart GPRS modem via RS232 by using GPRS(meter control the modem via AT commands);
\

 3. Each meter is connecting to a Data Concentration Units (DCU), which may support up to 32 meters,and each DCU is connecting to a F2103 Pro serial to GPRS gateway via RS485 by using GPRS (transparent transmit serial data to billing center automatically).
